LET US AGAIN VISIT TO OLD AGE HOME

LET US AGAIN VISIT TO OLD AGE HOME

Some of the Aged People are starving & begging in the Streets, Bus-Stands, Railway Stations, Market Places, Some are living in an Old Age Home. Today interventions needed for the Aged to lead a happy and dignified life till their last breath. Their Wisdom and Capabilities should not be waste and unproductive. They should be provided with Psychological & Emotional support, whichever possibilities we have, can provide facilities for elderly people, who are having problems in their old age.

Many Old People are Widows and Widowers as well as Bachelors. Most of this group are poor & underprivileged and face many problems for their survival. Economic Flight and Inflation has increased the difficulties of Older Persons as large number families do not have means of the Physical needs. The family system and Social values have been under going significant change which is not favorable to the Aged. Ironic as may it sound, longevity is a blessing but age is curse. While Scientist and Doctors consistently try to prolong life, societies shun these very being to whom the modern medicine helps live longer. Throughout the country the elderly persons are ignored, not given their rights, abused and even abandoned or killed.

This year we are also going to Volananda Bridhyashrom on 05.01.2014, Sunday at Barrackpore to spend some hours with them and some gifts would be given to them. We shall also arrange their lunch as earlier. If you like to be a part of this noble cause you can participate and can help them by contributing to us.

SCHOLARSHIP / SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM OF EDU-CARE PROJECT

Sukhe Dukkhe Organisation is working in the field of education and upliftment for underprivileged children. Since February, 2011 we are working with the street & poor children, staying on pavement at Gallif Street and other places of Bagbazar area of North Kolkata, through our Edu-Care Project for Underprivileged Children at our Registered office, 13/B, Santi Ghosh Street, Kolkata 700 003. It’s a Non-formal School imparts education to 25 children in between the age group of 5 to 16.

Before giving the idea of our teaching, let us first concentrate their problems. These children belongs to the people reside in the slum, mainly laborers and mostly belong to the below poverty line. Though the students are registered in Formal Municipal Schools, but due to the poor teaching and inattentiveness towards these downtrodden kids, neither they are able to comprehend what the teacher tries to explain, nor are having the courage to express that feeling in fair of the teacher. Thus, they become less interested in study, thereby increased their absence in the school. Non-participation in other activities in their school being slum dwellers, also make them indifferent towards co-curricular activities. Symptoms like low confidence, non-attachment, and indifference towards the education systems become visible in their innocent faces.  They become inattentive in classes, resulting in poor performance in exam and assessments.  The parents, who are already struggling to meet their both ends, soon lost interest in their children’s study, and after sometime their interest of earning money diverted these children from school to work places as domestic helps, helper at tea shops, small factories as child labour, sometimes the teenagers being prone to danger of being engaged in crime or being exploited.

After these root cause analysis, we understood that the foremost important is to build the confidence in them that they have the potential to be the best student in their school and they can also participate in various co-curricular activities along with other students. After that we prioritize their health and nutrition as they could not get enough nutrient foods required for a developing child of their age.  Then we tried to understand their socio-economic conditions, and the way to upgrade the same. Increase in awareness among the parents towards and their child’s improvements are also to be taken care to take them in confidence that their child can achieve success in education also.

We started with giving them supportive education in our Registered Office. The students become attentive towards their study because of endless efforts from our volunteer teaching stuffs. It identifies and develops their talents in their field of interest which may vary from art and craft to computers. Besides the curriculum set by the West Bengal Board, educational excursions, drawing, music, yoga, acting, dances, art classes, workshops on environment and hygiene are being arranged at regular intervals. Regular parents-teacher meeting, guardian counseling and several workshops & awareness programmes are the other important activities areas where the project focuses on. We are also distributing them some nutrient food twice in a week according to our ability. They are performing on the occasions of Rabindra Jayanti, 15th August, Netaji’s birthday, Swami Vivekananda’s birthday and many other occasions. We are also providing them new copies, pen, pencils, school bags, new dresses and umbrellas. We also arranged for some plastic sheets to repair their homes affected by storms and rain.

The families of those students are very poor and maximum time they spent on the pavement. We are trying our best to bring them in the main stream of the social life. Many well wishers helping us for this purpose besides the members of the Organisation. At present we have 25 students. Their main problems are lack of nutrition and proper treatment against their perennial ailment due to unhygienic inhabitation. Some elderly students are working as domestic helper for their family’s livelihood and are trying to keep their existence in education. Some other male child students also working in local open market for flower, dog, birds and aquarium fish on every Sunday from dawn to dusk to earn extra money for their family’s livelihood.

Being a grass root NGO working for only 3 years, Sukhe Dukkhe Organization is yet to get any major funding from Government or any Corporate. We are sustaining our efforts by our membership contribution, and donations from well wishers. We know, that it is not possible for anyone to support a project on individual capacity, but if we unite together, we can collect as much as required for this project.

Therefore, we are introducing some children specific scholarship schemes and some activity specific sponsorship scheme for our Edu-Care Project. We request you to please choose any of them as per your capacity, and enlighten the bright smile in those innocent faces. We promise to spend the whole amount on the Children in case of Children Specific Scholarships and on the Activity in case of Activity based Sponsorship donations.  Regular progress report of the student who gets your scholarship will reach to you, and Activity Report on Sponsorship will also be updated through our correspondence, newsletters etc.

We hope, you will spread these within your friends and colleagues so that they can also choose to be a part of this Project.
